The loss of a tooth is a horrific experience. It is much worse when the missing tooth is visible when you smile. Tooth loss can occur inadvertently thru trauma or dental disease. Your Beyond Smiles dentist is now able to replace the missing tooth or teeth with dental implants. Dental Implants used in conjunction with dentures has even enabled a completely edentulous (toothless) person to feel the normality of function without having to constantly worry about their teeth dancing with their food. Your Beyond Smiles dentists are able to discuss with you and execute the entire procedure, from detailed initial planning, to site preparation and implant placement surgery, and finally implant restoration with crown, bridges or dentures.
A conebeam CT providing a 3D (3 dimensional) image of the surgical area is required for your dentist to plan the procedure. This also provides information on areas surrounding vital structures, and bone volume deficiencies. If there is insufficient bone, a separate or simultaneous bone grafting or sinus procedure to augment the area will be required. This grafting procedure and the implant placement procedure can often be performed under local anaesthetic. The restorative phase of your implant rehabilitation procedure begins with the exposure of the implants, followed by impressions, much like those for taken for your porcelain crown and bridge or dentures.
Following laboratory fabrication, a try-in procedure confirms that all expectations have been met prior to the final prosthesis being inserted. This is very similar to having your porcelain crown, bridge or denture inserted, and can be performed comfortably without anaesthetic. Please advise your Beyond Smiles dentist if you wish to consider the use of dental implants in your treatment to restore your smile and normal masticatory functions.
